The Apple Watch is selling at a record rate. Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed during the Cupertino company’s latest earnings call that Watch sales had almost doubled, year-over-year, and that Apple’s wearables business was the size of a Fortune 500 company.

But while the Series 2 model is selling like hot cakes, there’s huge anticipation as to what the next-generation Apple Watch will be. The Apple Watch Series 3 is the subject of intense web-rumor mongering and it’s not easy to keep up to speed with the latest murmured features and launch details.

That’s where this post comes in. Here’s a roundup of the juiciest Apple Watch 3 rumors…

LTE connectivity

“We understand a model of the next Apple watch will include a SIM card, and therefore is likely to support LTE. We understand some issues remain, including battery life and form factor size, but significant progress has been made.” Those are the words of Susquehanna Financial Group semiconductor analyst Christopher Rolland, as reported by Barron’s. The WSJ has also claimed the next Apple Watch would have 4G skills.

However, Paul Reynolds, an advisory board member to healthcare startup Gliimpse before it was acquired by Apple told Wareable that the Apple Watch Series 3 may not have cellular connectivity. “I’m not convinced LTE support is needed at this time,” he said, pointing out that user markets for the Watch and iPhone are “tied” and the technical costs for adding LTE are “significant.”

Smart bands and glucose monitoring

According to a recent BGR report, upcoming Apple Watches will be capable of glucose monitoring. “Apple’s sights are now set on the epidemic of diabetes, and the company plans to introduce a game-changing glucose monitoring feature in an upcoming Apple Watch,” it stated.

The same report also claims that Apple could also add smart watch bands to the mix, with different features and functions (it says the glucose monitoring feature could be implemented through a smart band, for example).

“A camera band that adds a camera to the watch is another possibility, or a band that contains a battery to extend battery life for wearers who want even more longevity, even though the Apple Watch’s battery performance is already class-leading,” reads the report.

New display tech

Apple is said to be switching things up for the display, moving from a glass panel to a glass film touch solution – according to Digitimes.

A newer report by Business Korea alleges that an advanced micro-LED display could be hitting the Series 3. The report refers Apple acquiring micro-LED specialists LuxVue in 2014.

“LuxVue was working on micro-LEDs and other display technologies and is thought to have successfully created a process for churning out low-power, micro-LED-based displays for consumer electronics in volume,” it reads.

Battery boost

Digitimes also reported that the next Apple smartwatch is going to be manufactured by Quanta Computer and will feature “better performance and longer battery life.”

“Currently, improving battery efficiency is Quanta’s main task for the new Apple Watch and its other hardware will not see much change,” the report said.

Round face

Reports circulated in early December that Apple could be working on a round-faced smartwatch. A couple of patent filings turned up focused on an “Electronic device having a display with curved edges”. According to Apple Insider, who discovered the documents, Apple was considering non-rectangular device displays as recently as the beginning of 2016.

Launch date

Apple is likely to reveal the Apple Watch Series 3 in the third quarter of this year. This was the word from a report in the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN). The original Watch went on sale in April 2015 and Series 2 launched in September 2016. There’s no established pattern yet, but September seems to be the focus of most attention. Source: forbes
